One Room Challenge - Spare Room

Hello One Room Challenge…I’ve always wanted to do one, but I never had the time or proper inspiration. I kind of started doing one with my office, but it took so long and I forgot to actually take before photos. So, I thought that the time has come that I actually try to do this right!

Without further ado, let me introduce you to the room taking part in this challenge – our spare/guest room. And before you scroll down, I’m so embarrassed by how bad we’ve let it get.

When we first moved in, I had all these ideas for the room, particularly to have a bed in it and use it as a guest room whenever my in-laws visit. However, we’ve since gotten rid of the bed and it’s become more of a spare room filled with everything that we don’t know what to do with. Oh, and Peter has been using it as a changing room for some strange reason.

So…what’s the plan? Well, I’m thinking about turning this hot mess into something of a reading/storage room. Now, when I say storage room, I mean the closet will be a storage area for all our bedding stuff. The plan is to change the fan light fixture to something a bit more updated. I want to leave the daybed where it is, but definitely change the bedding itself. Then, we’re going to add an Ikea Kallax 5 x 5 shelving unit on one side, and a nice reading chair on the other with a small ottoman.

My goal is to have all of this done by mid-June, so stay tuned for a before-and-after post coming soon! But for now, I apologize for the chaos that is that room! I can’t wait to get this all done and have a new area for reading, marking assignments and just relaxing when Peter is making music in the basement.
